SK Telecom, SK hynix and SK Square will invest 1 trillion won ($833 million) this year in technologies such as advanced semiconductors, artificial intelligence, blockchain and the metaverse. The three affiliates of SK Group will form a tech alliance and will create and 1 trillion won investment fund.
South Korean energy and chemicals conglomerate SK Group announced it would build a new centralised research and development (R&D) centre to strengthen the development of ‘green energy’ technology. The US$834m facility, to be located in Bucheon, near Seoul, would employ 3,000 people from key subsidiary companies including SK Innovation and its EV battery manufacturing spin-off SK On, SK Energy Company and SK Inc.
SKC, a part of South Korean conglomerate SK Group, will build a 12,000 square metre production plant in Georgia, U.S. SKC is starting to commercialise high-performance computing glass substrate that it has developed. Glass substrate is described as a futuristic material that is considered a 'game changer' in the semiconductor packaging field as it can significantly increase the performance and power efficiency of computer chipsets.
SK Group’s energy unit SK E&S Co. and Plug Power will set up a 51:49 joint venture to build a Giga Factory & R&D Center in a key metropolitan area in Korea by 2024. The facilities that will mass produce key facilities for hydrogen projects will be used to their advance into hydrogen markets in Asia.
